Introduction of science and units.
Introduction of science: the man who wanted next without any shelter eating uncooked food and trekked the wild land barefooted is now wearing exotic clothes, living in luxury buildings, testing delicious dishes and flying Supersonic planes. Progress of men will possible because of his knowledge acquired by understanding the facts the universe. From the beginning the intelligent people have been observing the things, analysing and systematically arrange the results in the form of laws and principles.
The knowledge of 'Facts' of nature is science
Definition of science: science is a collection of facts of the universe.
1 some of these fats are gained by man's experience
Eg : fraction, force of gravity, magnetism, etc..
2 some of these facts are joined by his efforts.
Eg: facts for space exploration, research in various fields.
Study of science is divided into number of branches like astronomy, geology, Oceanography, meteorolage, zoology, botany, chemistry, physics etc...
What is Physics?
Physics is one of the branch of science and it deals with
1 properties of matter in all its States
2 energy in all its forms and
3 relationship between matterand energy
Concept of units
In our daily life it is required to measure the physical quantity like volume, mass, length, etc in case of milk, kerosene, petrol etc we need to measure the volume in case of sugar, vegetable, pulses etc, we need to measure the mass.
To measure a physical quantity some standard is required. In measuring we compare the total magnitude of the physical quantity is to be measure with that of the standard.
For example: the length of a straight line is 5 cm means that magnitude of the straight line is 5 times of the magnitude standard I.e, centimetre.
Physical quantity, fundamental physical quantity, and derived physical quantity:
1 Physical quantity: the quantity that is measurable is called physical quantity
Eg: length, mass, time ,temperature ,speed area ,volume, etc
2 fundamental physical quantity: the physical quantity which are independent of one another are called fundamental physical properties
Eg length, mass ,time
3derived physical quantites : the physical quantity which can be derived from the fundamental physical quantity are called as derived physical quantities.
Unit: the standard that is used to measure physical quantity is called unit.
Characteristics of Unit
1 it should be well defined without any confusion
2 it should not change with respect to place time and temperature.
3 it should be easy to reproduce.
4 it should be of convenient size.
system of Unit:
System. unit
Length. mass. time.
C.G.S centimetre gram. sec
F.P.S. foot. pound. sec
M.K.S. meter. kilogram. sec
SI unit:
The11th general conference of weights and measures which meat in Paris1960 introduced a new system of unit called SI system, which covers all fields of Science and Technology. It is an unified system which contain of define units and symbols. International system of unit was introduced to followed by all the countries in the world to avoid confusion among the units
Now we can easily understand in the introduction of Science and units.
