Metallurgy is the science and technology of metals and

1) extracting metals from their ores 

2) refining of crude metal

3) production of alloys and the study of their constitution structure and properties

4) the relationship of physical and Mechanical properties to the thermal and mechanical treatment of metals and alloys.

metallurgical field may be broadly divided into following groups:

1) extractive metallurgy or chemical Metallurgy

2) mechanical metallurgy

3) physical Metallurgy

Extractive metallurgy deals with the Liberation of metals by various chemical process from their ores by using various raw materials. it is subdivided into ferrous and non ferrous category.

Mechanical Metallurgy deals with the mechanical working of metals, testing of Mechanical properties and shaping of metals and alloys by forging, coining, rolling, welding, and casting etc.,,

Physical Metallurgy deals with the properties of metals and alloys with the structure and chemical composition.
